Which airport from Dortmund? DTM, DUS, CGN and FRA compared

Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn or Frankfurt — which airport fits your flight? Drive times, fixed prices and when each is worth it.

Anyone travelling from the Unna district has a choice: four airports are reachable in a reasonable time, and they differ markedly — in destinations, drive time and price. Which one fits your flight? A quick orientation.

Dortmund Airport (DTM) — the fast neighbour

Around 15 minutes from Holzwickede, from €49 fixed: Dortmund Airport is the obvious choice for many. Wizz Air, Eurowings and others fly from here to destinations across Europe — often cheaply. For city breaks and European holiday flights, DTM is usually the fastest and most affordable option.

Düsseldorf (DUS) — the widest choice

Düsseldorf Airport is the largest in NRW: around 55 minutes via the A44, fixed price from €135. Here you find the widest choice of airlines and destinations, from the business connection to the long-haul flight. If DTM does not serve your destination, Düsseldorf is usually the next address.

Cologne/Bonn (CGN) — strong for night and early flights

Around 75 minutes via the A1, fixed price from €150: Cologne/Bonn Airport is a Eurowings hub and one of the few large airports with night-flight operations. Anyone flying very early or very late is in the right place here — and glad not to have to drive the motorway half-asleep.

Frankfurt (FRA) — the gateway to long-haul

Frankfurt Airport is Germany's largest and, for many intercontinental flights, without alternative. Around two and a half hours via the A45, fixed price from €300. Worth it above all when the long-haul flight does not go directly from NRW — and especially for groups, for whom a fixed price beats several train tickets with luggage.

And Münster/Osnabrück (FMO)?

For destinations towards Munich, Vienna or the Mediterranean, Münster/Osnabrück Airport is also an option — around 70 minutes via the A1, price on request.

The quick rule of thumb

  • Cheap & fast within Europe → Dortmund (DTM)
  • Widest choice, business → Düsseldorf (DUS)
  • Night or early flight → Cologne/Bonn (CGN)
  • Long-haul / intercontinental → Frankfurt (FRA)

Whichever it is: we pick you up at home, keep an eye on your flight number for the return, and give you a binding fixed price in advance — within 60 minutes at most. You will find an overview of all fixed prices on our airport transfer page.
